On Thursday, September 12, 2019, Author Frances Kakugawa will be giving a lecture on writing at the Northern California Publishers & Authors (NCPA) dinner meeting.

Frances will speak on the topic, “How to be almost famous and not so rich,” and will cover:

How writers write, how readers read
Sell books without sales talk
Live in the readers’ world to improve one’s own craft and for national exposure

About the author

Frances Kakugawa, internationally published author and poet, born in Kapoho, Hawaii, on the Big Island, currently lives in Sacramento. In her book, Kapoho: Memoir of a Modern Pompeii, she chronicles her life in Kapoho and its later destruction.

Frances taught for many years in the Michigan and Hawaii public school systems, conducted language arts workshops for teachers in Micronesia and Hawaii, and was a curriculum writer and lecturer for the University of Hawaii. She currently writes a column for the Hawai’i Herald.

In 2002, Frances was recognized in Living Legacy: Outstanding Women of the 20th Century in Hawaii. She also received two other awards for her work with the elders in the community. She’s written award-winning children’s books, poetry, and memoirs. Today, she travels nationwide, lecturing on various topics and giving workshops for children and adults. She also continues her poetry writing support group for caregivers.
